Don’t Waste Your Time TRYING!

“No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”–YODA, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

As I stand in the middle of a dozen mastermind students to teach this lesson every quarter for the last 4 years, I pick up a tissue between my thumb and forefinger.

I begin shaking my hand vehemently as though to let go of the tissue, saying
“I am
trying to drop this tissue.”

I can drop it or hold it, but
trying actually
is holding it! Everyone ‘gets’ the lesson in short order.

Trying is meaningless in my view. It’s an excuse to do nothing or make very little effort. It’s a place holder; an excuse. There is no power in trying. Do it or do not do it but don’t expect accolades for ‘trying’ anything. It’s an escape hatch to not be effective or gain results.

If it gets too hot ‘trying,’ most just stop right there. It’s when you DO something that you have results.
You get nada for trying. Watch how many time you say
“I’ll try to be on time.” No you won’t even try. It’s not top of mind. You haven’t given your Word. You
might make it on time; you might not. But there is no incentive; and being on time, as example, is simply not important to you.

Saying you’ll
try is an open ended excuse to do as much as you want, when you want, without commitment or giving your Word. It’s a space holder or saver, but nothing more.

Can you intentionally REMOVE that word from your vocabulary? Of course you can. DO IT for one week and watch your own results. It appears fleeting at first … you’ve said it
before you’ve caught yourself even saying it. With a little practice however you will find others will begin to count on you to BE your Word. If you are a ‘tryer,’ people do not count on you. Why would they? When you say you will be somewhere, you will be there … or you won’t, you’ll do it or not do it.
That is personal power. This is one baby step that will move you quickly into leadership and be count-on-able to others.-

When One Day = $10,000 in Training for You!

It is well known by those who live lives including great wealth, excellent health and all around happiness, that investing in our own education .. continued learning .. is the true ‘key’ to expanded personal and business results.

While many are aware of this fact, most do little about it, always putting it off ‘until this or that is done.’ For roughly 3% of our population, however, when an opportunity arises providing highly valued learning at a negligible cost in a condensed period of time, they JUMP to get that content! Why? Because they know that “Learning is the ‘miracle grow’ for extreme success!”

The law of compensation — how much money you will earn from your growing expertise — is based on three vital elements — 1) the need for what you do, 2) how well you do it, and 3) how tough it is to replace your expertise! So clearly enhancing #2 always boosts #3! It’s what many refer to as a ‘no brainer.’

So when asked to direct the educational portion of this Saturday’s 4th Annual Business Alliance Rally May 19 sponsored by Women’s Power Networking, I jumped at the chance. The 3% thinker’s rule of thumb is to “invest 10% of our annual income on our personal growth — our own learning,” so when I saw the tickets were only $ 10 for having access to 12 business experts speaking 24 times in a 6 hour period this Saturday at the McKimmon Center, I wanted to have a hand in collecting those experts to provide free community training so you can easily and in record time, up-level your businesses.

But that wasn’t enough! There is a ‘meet the media’ luncheon panel where you will learn from well known media experts the best way to leverage your budget to promote and grow your business. And if you like to take a chance and love art, you can meet Charlotte artist Stefan Duncan (dubbed America’s Van Gogh) in the lobby while he paints and chats with attendees. The big raffle prize is Stefan’s The Tree Dancer, valued at $ 3100 which he donated to Women’s Power Networking. A portion of the proceeds go to Eastern NC Alzheimer’s Association.

The day is a Gift to the business community. One day — where you get tens of thousands of dollars worth of expert advice and recommendations and meet with dozens of diverse business exhibitors that will share how you can easily add an additional stream of income in record time.

Why not accept the gift of trading one day of your life by earmarking this Saturday May 19 — as an investment in your future?

Which is Best Use of Media for Growing your Business?

Do you know which media path is best for promoting your business — television, social media, newsprint, magazines, radio — and WHY?

Isn’t it critical?

Using media is an investment and we all want to invest carefully in growing our businesses.
You already know that you would not send a press release about child birth to
Boom! Magazine, right? Boom! focuses on mid life and older, so they would not be a good choice for investing in growing that kind of business.

“Meet the Media” Panel Luncheon will be held during the
May 19
Business Alliance Rally at McKimmon Center, sponsored by
Women’s Power Networking.

While the event includes 12 breakout speaker experts, raffle of a $ 3100 painting and demonstration by NC artist Stefan Duncan and more than 70 business Exhibitors, the
Meet the Media Panel Luncheon will give you an opportunity to hear from 5 local experts in different areas of promoting your business.
A portion of the day’s proceeds goes to the Eastern NC Alzheimer’s Association.

Panel Members:
Alex, McTighe,  National Sales Manager, Curtis Media Group (radio)
Barbara Petty, Owner and Publisher, Boom! Magazine
Matthew Donegan, General Sales Manager, Fox 50 TV
William Ammerman, Sales and Marketing Manager, WRAL.com
James Wong, CoFounder and Partner, Empowered Ideas

Taking David Letterman’s Lead … Top 10 Reasons Why

Leslie Flowers’s Posts – The 919 Business Network – Local Business Networking

How Learning to Play Chess and Engaging a Mentor are Similar

Living below Coit Tower in the San Francisco in the 60′s was every bit as adventurous as you might imagine! In a coffee shop in the shadow of the Tower, a friend sat me down to teach me to play chess. I knew checkers, yet chess is something altogether different. You know if you’ve played both.

I quickly latched on to the game and became an avid enthusiast. Losing consistently and every time did not deter me. I was persistent and eventually, I beat him! What a day! I whooped and hollered and danced around like a crazy woman.

We continued our lessons until I was winning half the time … then 75% and pretty soon I was the better player.

“It was time,” he said. You have to find a player who is much better than you so you can grow! And so I did.

I have had many amazing and famous mentors. I chose the best because I thought, really, “you’re too old to start at the bottom,” and I had done 10 years of study before I took on a big time mentor for my own personal growth and development.

I absorbed their training like a sponge, practicing and adding this information to my own platform. And then something odd began happening. You may have experienced this same thing yourself.

I began to notice there were things about my mentors (several at this point) that began to feel uncomfortable to me. Things I never noticed before. I saw behaviors I would not replicate myself, yet they continued feeding great information.

After a few months, more and more things that were not in alignment with how I do business with folks, were showing up. In some cases they were doing the opposite of what they had taught me.

Deeply disappointed, I left them and moved on to other mentors who were aligned with my own standards, values and ideals.

I had simply outgrown my own mentors in awareness and in some cases, ability. I don’t really know why I was so surprised when this happened as I had experienced this same scenario playing chess. Perhaps I was enamored … working with some greats. In any case …

… As with my chess mentor … I moved on. How about you? Is it time for you to boost your own personal growth? Have you outgrown your mentor?

Ten Voices of the Common Victim

I think we have all played or think we’ve been a ‘victim’ at some point in time. When we do this, however, we give away our only power. The only thing we human beings do have control over is choice based on thought. So to see ourselves as victimized by someone else, is self demeaning. We become a “candle in the wind, never knowing what to cling to when the rain sets in.” [thank you Elton John]

What does the victim sound like? Look like? How can you tell if you are BEING a victim or if someone else is?  Feel free to add to this list. Once you recognize any of these things in yourself, you can DO something about it. Or not. Recognizing it in another allows you to step back and give them grace. The victim is totally unaware that they have any power to begin with.

  1. The abusive person will say “you made me hit you.” They pretend that the abused has victimized the abuser. So the abuser makes themselves a victim.
  2. I was late because of the traffic (or the rain, or the dog, or school). No, you were late because you didn’t plan properly or give yourself enough fudge time to be on time.
  3. I can’t do what I said because I’m too busy. No, you get to say what things you will do and will not do. This is a poor justification for not keeping your Word.
  4. I got a failing grade because the teacher doesn’t like me. No, you got the failing grade because you did not step up to the plate and do the work.
  5. No one likes me! No, as many like you as do not like you. You must like yourself first and then those who like you will be by your side.
  6. I’m out of money because the landlord is greedy and charges too much for rent. No, you chose to live there and pay that rent. It has nothing to do with the landlord.
  7. I couldn’t leave to meet you because my client wouldn’t leave. No, you tell the client how much time you have and get up out of your seat at the appointed time.
  8. I can’t do that because I’ve failed before. Failure is learning … not for the victim however. The Victim loves proving that they ARE a victim!
  9. You just ticked me off! No, you ALLOWED yourself to be ticked off.
  10. I can’t go to my job interview because I’m low on gas and it is SO expensive! No, it is your job to manage your gas tank. Poor planning has you with not enough gas.

Bottom line: The Victim takes zero responsibility for their own actions and their own life. They are the patsy for every one and every thing. They operate on the very lowest level of awareness … fight or flight, purely reactive. They can muster an excuse in a heartbeat!

What are some other examples you can share?

Our Personal Beliefs are the Source of our Success …

…or of minimal or zero success … just surviving.

Whatever we BELIEVE in our heart of hearts(coined phrase by Ancient Greeks when referring to the subconscious mind) shows up as our lifestyle and results.

We may talkabout having a lot of things and giving back in a lot of ways. Talk is cheap.

It all TAKES MONEY. Money is a tool. Most of us have a mindset of LACK, not of WEALTH, and we can only have ONE of those — not both. Most of us have beliefs that we shouldn’t want money.Nothing could be further from the truth!

Mindset of Lack + Beliefs of our Limits = Survival
Mindset of Wealth + Beliefs that Serve = Thriving and Success

I have learned that how many books I read, classes I take, videos I watch, CDs I listen to MAKES NO DIFFERENCE … IF … I don’t believe I deserve to thrive, am smart enough to thrive, or have the ability to thrive … I NEVER WILL. Neither will you! We never out-perform what we believe we can do!

That’s what makes my presentation this weekend on Friday (12:30) AND Saturday (10:30 am) at the annual Southern Womens Show at the State Fairgrounds is so exciting. People will actually ‘get’ what to do about what they have! They will finally KNOW why they live in survival and the simple steps to take to REVERSE the PROCESS!

Believe~2~Succeed will ‘clue women in’ on what they really believe AND exactly how we got what we don’t want and what to do about it!
