Google needs you to be influencing people with good content that people need. With 35,000 followers +Mark Traphagen influences people. The more followers you have, the more influence. If people go to your content and stay there, this is what Google wants and will show you more in search. Mark Traphagen gave a presentation on Google+ at the “Digital Marketing for Business Conference” April 15-16 in Raleigh.
Some interesting points Mark made:
Google treats posts and Google+ pages as equal in authority to sites. You can earn authority by the quality of the sites that link to you. They build authority. Mark showed a picture of “the worlds worst website” that has built high authority simply by the fact that so many people linked to it to see why it was so bad. That was not about content!
The “page rank” of a posting can trump the “number of followers” . . . the follower number is not the biggest rank factor anymore. Who and what are “pointing” at you build your page rank.
Use Google “authorship”, which posts to your content, and then your authorship tag on your content points to you.
Steps for you to take:
1. Post.
2. Evaluate with GPlusData.
3. Evaluate with CircleCount.com
4. Evaluate with www.prchecker.net
Another goal to which one can aspire is a “Vanity profile”. See Mark’s “vanity profile” and more . . . take the link to the story.
